Definition of Infertility

 

By WHO’s definition, “Infertility” is when a couple fails to conceive naturally after one year of trying. This problem is affecting 1 in 6 couples in Hong Kong. Couples are normally advised to consult their doctors when they fail to conceive after 1 year of regular unprotected sex.

However, it is more difficult to conceive for the older women due to the decline in egg number and quality. Hence it is reasonable to seek medical advice, fertility testing and investigations earlier as if the women’s age is more advanced.
